ShortsShare is a browser extension that lets you chat with friends and share YouTube Shorts in real time. This page explains what data the extension handles and how it is used.
What data we collect
- Google account information — When you sign in, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google via Firebase Authentication. This information is stored locally on your device using the browser's built-in storage and is used only to identify you to your friends inside the extension.
- Chat messages — Messages you send are relayed in real time through our WebSocket server. They are not written to any database and are discarded as soon as they are delivered.
What we do not collect
- We do not track your browsing history or the videos you watch.
- We do not store chat messages on any server after delivery.
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties.
- We do not use your data for advertising or profiling.
Third-party services
Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication (Google). By signing in, you also agree to Google's Privacy Policy.
Data storage
Your name, email, and profile picture are stored locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local. This data never leaves your device except as part of the authentication flow with Google.
Deleting your data
You can sign out at any time from the extension popup. Signing out removes all locally stored account information. Because chat messages are never stored on the server, there is nothing to delete on our end.
